God’s Pit Crew recognized their unsung heroes on Friday night at their annual volunteer network. Two God’s Pit Crews received special recognition during the ceremony.

Mike McGeough received the Hero Award. Mike’s service to God’s Pit Crew epitomizes an unsung hero. For many years, Mike has single-handedly maintained the headquarters’ grass and outdoor areas, working several days a week, after working at his job overnight.

God’s Pit Crew also recognized Al Robey, for attaining the milestone of 15,000 hours of service to God’s Pit Crew. Al has volunteered as a God’s Pit Crew truck driver, helped victims of numerous disasters by serving on the Immediate Response Team, and helped to rebuild homes.

Many other volunteers were recognized during the banquet after returning last week from helping victims of Hurricane Ian in Florida. The Immediate Response team left Danville on Monday, October 3 to travel to Port Charlotte.

The team of 166 volunteers served 199 families, mucking out homes, clearing trees and debris, and distributing Blessing Buckets and other emergency supplies. The team will return to Florida at the end of November to help more people impacted by Ian.

God’s Pit Crew Founder and President Randy Johnson says“These awards are so very well-deserved. We are incredibly grateful for our wonderful volunteers who make our mission to provide hope, healing, and restoration possible. All of them, including Mike and Al, are always willing to go above and beyond to serve others through God’s Pit Crew. They do this out of love for others and a desire to quietly do what needs to be done.”
