Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (DRHA) has created the Scholarship Advancement Fund to help its residents in Public Housing and Section 8 (HCV) reach the next level in their educational journey. DRHA will host a Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball in 2023, to raise money for the Scholarship Advancement Fund.
DRHA will be seeking corporate sponsorships to drive the fundraiser. There will be live entertainment by Grayson Capps, an Americana, Blues, and Rock artist, most noted for his recent work Scarlett Roses, who will give us a taste of his bayou musical roots.
On Monday November 14, DRHA will be delivering courtship boxes to 14 area businesses that they are “courting” to be sponsors of the Masquerade Ball. The Scholarship Advancement Fund will provide eight scholarships from $500 to $2000 based on the availability of funds. An applicant’s grade point average will determine the award amount. Those who earned a GED are eligible to apply, but the maximum scholarship amount would be $500.00.
Residents who wish to apply can do so in February 2023. Winners of the scholarships will be announced in March and will be encouraged and coached to apply for the Virginia Association of Housing and Community Development Officials’(VAHCDO) annual scholarship. VAHCDO is the organization that brings together all Redevelopment and Housing Authorities to advocate and promote affordable housing opportunities and vibrant communities for all of Virginia.
