Last night the Danville Kiwanis Club held their 89th Citizenship Award banquet at the Danville Golf Club. This year’s recipient is Randy Johnson the Founder and President of God’s Pit Crew.
Johnson founded God’s Pit Crew in 1999 when they delivered supplies to Oklahoma City after one of the largest tornadoes ever recorded hit the area. The non-profit organization has grown from a handful of volunteers and borrowed trucks in 1999 to now having over 800 volunteers locally and nationally. The non-profit now owns seven tractor-trailers, two tool trailers, a shower trailer, and a refrigerated trailer.
The organization has now responded to 163 disasters worldwide, including 12 this year. God’s pit crew also donates locally to schools, churches, fire departments, and animal shelters. God’s Pit Crew is currently in Port Charlotte, Florida helping victims of Hurricane Ian.
