The Martinsville Police Department has launched an internal investigation after a disturbing video between an officer and a Martinsville Middle School student has been circulating on social media.
According to a release from the department, the officer in the video was temporarily serving as the School Resource Officer. The department will be conducting an internal investigation of the officer and will be reviewing video footage and body camera footage.
The officer will no longer serve as the School Resource Officer at any of the Martinsville City Public Schools.
The video starts with the officer getting on the bus and asking “Who’s not getting off the bus?”, after a few moments the officer escorts a male student off of the bus. Things escalate once the student and officer get off of the bus and the officer can be seen putting his hands on the student on multiple occasions.
The student then begins to walk away from the school with another student and the officer can be seen pulling out what appears to be his taser. The officer then instructs the student to walk back towards the school courtyard.
The video ends with the student and officer back in the school courtyard. Several students both on the bus and in the school courtyard witnessed the incident.
