The Martinsville Police Department has fired the officer involved in the incident with a student on December 16 at Martinsville Middle School. All information is being turned over to a special prosecutor, who will determine whether or not criminal charges are necessary.

The internal investigation being conducted by the department is still ongoing and no additional statements will be released at this time. On Monday the department announced that the officer would no longer serve as a School Resource Officer at any of the Martinsville City Public Schools after they became aware of the incident.

A video circulated on social media that showed the officer putting his hands on a male 12-year-old student. The officer could also be seen pulling out what appeared to be his taser.
