Tuesday night the Danville City Council adopted a resolution in support of renaming a portion of Route 311/Berry Hill Road in honor of the late Coy Harville and Sherman Saunders. The section is the northern portion of Route 311/Berry Hill Road, running from Route 58 to the intersection of the proposed connector road to service the Southern Virginia mega-site.
Saunders has been a member of City Council since 2001. The rest of the council sang Saunders and Harville’s praises including Vice Mayor Dr Gary Miller.
“This was a no brainer, we’ve got Coy Harville and our own Sherman Saunders, who were there at the beginning of the Berry Hill project and I don’t think you could pick two more appropriate people to name this road after,” said Miller.
Harville served on the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors for 20 years before his death on August 10, 2022.
