Day one of the Harry Johnson Holiday Classic basketball tournament at GW tipped off yesterday. The GW boys team cruised to a 59-26 win in their first-round match-up with Gretna. The Eagles will take on Chatham tonight at 7:30 in the semifinals. In the other boy’s game Norfolk Academy beat Westover Christian 72-55. They’ll play Tunstall in the other semifinal today at 6.
In girls action the GW girls survived a come back attempt from Gretna to win 52-49 and advance to the championship game on Thursday. They’ll play the winner of today’s game between Tunstall and Orange County.
Both championship games on Thursday will air on 102.5 WBTM with coverage beginning at 5:30 pm.
