God’s Pit Crew volunteers and staff are returning to eastern Kentucky to rebuild a home for a family who lost everything in last summer’s catastrophic floods. At the same time, their Immediate Response Team is deploying to Mississippi to help victims of a massive tornado that caused catastrophic damage and loss of life.

The Smith family of Letcher, Kentucky lost their home and all their belongings when massive floods swept through their area. God’s Pit Crew will rebuild, furnish, and decorate a new home for them in just two weeks, for free. The volunteers traveled yesterday to the rebuilding site in Letcher, and are beginning work today. They will reveal the Smith family’s new home and give them their keys on Friday, April 7th.

God’s Pit Crew spent several weeks in eastern Kentucky last August after devastating floods destroyed communities there. The volunteers cleared debris, mucked out homes, removed trees, and delivered emergency supplies including our Blessing Buckets filled with non-perishable food, hygiene items, first-aid, a Bible, and an encouraging note.

God’s Pit Crew’s Immediate Response Team is also preparing to leave their headquarters Tuesday morning to help victims of the catastrophic tornado that hit Mississippi last Friday night. They will travel to Winona, one of the hardest-hit areas with the fewest resources, to help victims and distribute supplies. Their highly-trained volunteers will muck out homes, cut trees, remove debris, and tarp roofs. They are also loading numerous tractor-trailers with emergency supplies, including tarps, water, Gatorade, and Blessing Buckets, and sending them to several locations in Mississippi.

God’s Pit Crew President Randy Johnson says,“Our hearts break for all those who are hurting in the midst of these terrible disasters. The destruction in Mississippi is catastrophic. We are grateful to be able to deploy volunteers and provide tractor-trailer loads of supplies to help. Meantime, we are excited to return to eastern Kentucky to build a new home for the Smith family and help them start over. We’re truly grateful to our wonderful volunteers and donors for making what we do possible.”
