Average gas prices in Virginia are up six cents over the last week, according to AAA. Today’s average price of $3.47 a gallon is also up 22 cents from a month ago.
The average price in the City of Danville is currently $3.29, while the average price in Pittsylvania County is $3.39 a gallon. In Martinsville the average price is $3.32 and in Henry County the average price is up to $3.35. The highest gas prices across the southside are in Halifax County at $3.43 a gallon.
According to AAA, OPEC’s announcement last weekend that it will cut production by over a million barrels per day starting in a month took the oil market by surprise. In response, crude immediately surged well above $80 a barrel, although it has since struggled to stay above that mark. Meanwhile, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose seven cents since last week to hit $3.55.
