A well known preacher and evangelical broadcaster with strong ties to our region died on Tuesday. Reverend Dr. Charles Stanley died at 90 years old after leading his church in Atlanta for 51 years.
Stanley was born in Dry Fork in 1932. He served as the pastor at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church in Danville before going to Atlanta.
Stanley went on to First Baptist Church of Atlanta where he pastored for over 50 years. He also founded In Touch Ministries, which broadcasted his sermons in 180 countries and translated into 55 different languages. Stanley also authored more than 70 books and once led the Southern Baptist Convention.
