Springfield Distillery in Halifax has teamed up with Williamsburg non-profit Paws of Honor to provide veterinary care at no charge to retired military and law enforcement K-9s across the country. The limited-edition custom-label single-barrel whiskey named Honor is meant to commemorate Paws of Honor’s slogan Two Heroes, One Leash.
The distillery will be donating $2,500 per barrel sold to Paws of Honor which can help aid up to 50 dogs a year. Kelly the owner of the distillery says, “Being a military “brat” myself, service dogs have been an important part of our family for a long time. My father was one of the only officer K-9 handlers in Vietnam and later became the commander for the Security Police dog training school at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. So, this is very special to us.”
To sell the whiskey in as many places as possible Paws of Honor and Springfield Distillery will attend several tasting and fundraising events this year starting in May.
