One man is dead after a drowning at Smith Mountain Lake on Monday morning. The Franklin County Sheriff’s office received a call of a possible drowning at 9:54 am.
Once on scene members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, Smith Mountain Lake Marine Fire and Rescue, and Franklin County Public Safety discovered a man in the water near a dock that was unconscious. After extensive measures trying to save the man failed, he was pronounced dead.
The man’s body was sent to Roanoke for an autopsy. Foul play is not suspected at this time. The investigation will stay open until the autopsy results are known.
