On Monday a man was found dead after drowning at Smith Mountain Lake. The Franklin County Sheriff’s office received a call of a possible drowning at 9:54 am.
Once on scene members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, Smith Mountain Lake Marine Fire and Rescue, and Franklin County Public Safety discovered a man in the water near a dock that was unconscious. After extensive measures trying to save the man failed, he was pronounced dead.
On Friday authorities identified the man as 51-year-0ld John Charles Lewis, of Portland, Oregon. The cause of death was drowning, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.
