A US vertical farming company with a farm in Danville filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday. AeroFarms made the filing less than a year after opening their operation in Danville.
The filing means that the company is seeking legal protection to restructure their finances and operations. According to Vertical Farm Daily, AeroFarms has secured $10 million in financing from existing investors to support operations.
AeroFarms has also announced that the CEO, David Rosenberg, will be stepping down. The company’s CFO Guy Blanchard will now take on more roles in the company as President.
Despite the challenges that the company has been facing they are encouraged by how the plant in Danville has performed. AeroFarms says that they will continue to look to expand the business and serve their customers.
The AeroFarms facility in Danville officially opened in September as the world’s largest aeroponic smart farm. The facility is 140,000 square feet and could employ up to 158 people in the region
