2 Witches Winery & Brewing Company, Danville’s oldest brewery and Virginia’s first colocated winery and brewery, will hold a ceremony on Friday to celebrate its expansion with the addition of a food trailer, The Cauldron.
The ceremony will be held at 4 pm at the company’s 209 Trade St. location in Danville.
The Cauldron, a 22-foot trailer, will feature “street food” classics like Reuben’s, chicken wings, smash burgers, and salads. Later this summer, The Cauldron will roll out a custom charcuterie board and additional hand-held options. Many of the sauces and marinades feature 2 Witches’ award-winning brews. Options include beer cheese with Salem’s Revenge, a hazy IPA, hot dog chili featuring Mojo Magic, an amber ale, and brownies with McLean’s milk stout.
“Over the last nine years, we’ve had a few food trucks set up at our location, but consistency has been challenging and several local trucks have transitioned to brick-and-mortar facilities,” said Julie Brown, 2 Witches’ president. “Our customers would often comment that they wished we offered food because they wanted to stay longer but needed to leave to eat. With this addition, we can continue to offer a one-of-a-kind experience to our community, responding to their interests.”
The Cauldron will initially be open Friday through Sunday during 2 Witches’ normal hours of operation. The team plans to offer weekend brunch events along with special beer, wine, and food pairing events. The menu will change every weekend based on seasonal food options and the current beer and wine selection.
Alex Hattwick, The Cauldron’s head chef, said, “Over the next year, we plan to expand our food service operation by taking deep dives into international cuisine, hosting popup events and inviting local guest chefs to join us.”
Hattwick has 15 years of experience in the hospitality and food service industry and is excited about this new venture.
“We appreciate the power of bringing people together for a meal and know that having a local food option on-site, coupled with our crafted beverages and cozy atmosphere, is just one more reason friends and families will visit 2 Witches.”
Hattwick will be joined by Laura Brown, who will serve as the Sous Chef this summer.
Mayor Alonzo Jones said the addition of a food trailer is an exciting development.
“For nearly 10 years, 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Company has been an exemplary example of the local, family owned and operated entrepreneurs that make Danville, and our region, so authentic and appealing,” Jones said. “We were happy to assist them in this expansion by providing both a small business expansion and assistance grant and a marketing grant administered by our Office of Economic Development and Tourism. We wish Julie and her family continued success.”
