Danville Community College celebrated the unveiling of the new Commercial Driver’s License simulator Monday at the Regional Center for Advanced Technology and Training in Danville.
The City of Danville, DCC, and Pittsylvania County contributed  to the purchase of the simulator, for a total cost of $100,000.
So far, 25 students have completed the program, and all who have taken the CDL test have passed. The simulator provides students with the opportunity to experience a wide variety of driving conditions and other variables without endangering people or equipment during training. In terms of employment, CDL drivers represent one of the largest industry sectors expressing a need. The program offers four-week and weekend program options.
Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors Chairman Darrell Dalton provided comments during the unveiling ceremony.
“The partnership with Danville Community College, DCC’s Workforce Services, the DCC Educational Foundation and the City of Danville will become more and more frequent. On behalf of Pittsylvania County, Administrator (Stuart) Turille, the members of the Board of Supervisors and our citizens, congratulations to Danville Community College,” said Dalton.
“The CDL simulator is a testament to the collaboration between Pittsylvania County, the City of Danville and DCC,” said DCC President, Dr. Jerry Wallace.
