Our Danville Dental Associates Citizen of the Month for June is Austin Scher

We are happy to announce our latest WBTM/Danville Dental Associates Citizen of the Month…he is Austin Scher, General Manager of the Danville Otterbots. Letter of nomination submitted by Austin Bunn.

The experience at an Otterbots game is second to none. Austin has worked to make the ballpark an inclusive place for everyone,  by hosting numerous benefit events with strategic partnerships, such as the “Sensory Room” where children and families with sensory aversions can enjoy the ballpark. Scher created the Goodyear Good Seats program offering 20 free tickets for each game to a local charity or youth based program. The Otterbots are active in the community visiting and reading to local schools, in addition to attending career day. This year, Austin and the Otterbots introduced the “Bots Read Around the Bases Summer Reading Program” available to all Pittsylvania County elementary and middle school students. In the fall of 2021, the Otterbots implemented the “Fun at Bat” program in all Danville elementary schools. Austin then began discussions with Parks & Rec leaders about restarting a city Little League program.

During the season, the Otterbots offer an array of promotional theme nights at the ballpark: Sensory Night, Juneteenth Celebration, Cancer Awareness Night, Pride Night, Foster Parent Appreciation Night, Military Appreciation Night, and First Responders Night. Austin reaches out to the community in so many ways.

Speaking of reaching out, he serves as the Chair of the Danville Public Schools Education Foundation, working tirelessly to raise funds and distribute them through scholarships to the students of our city. As a fellow board member, I have seen the passion and drive he has to make a positive impact on our community and improve our region. Austin Scher is committed to Danville and we are lucky to have him.

We want to thank Austin Bunn for his letter of nomination and concur with his assessment. We certainly can see why the General Manager of the Otterbots was selected, last year, as the “Executive of the Year in the Appalachian League.” We are quite proud to bestow upon Austin Scher another prestigious honor…our WBTM Danville Dental Associates Citizen of the Month.
