A fiery crash that occurred in Halifax County on Tuesday night killed one person and injured another. The crash occurred just outside of South Boston on Huell Matthews Highway before 10 pm.

80-year-old Herbert Throckmorton, of Virgilina, was taken to a hospital in North Carolina for injuries sustained in the fiery crash. Throckmorton was later pronounced dead. 52-year-old Sheila Womack, of South Boston, was also injured and taken to Sentara Halifax.

Womack was charged with DUI in connection to the crash, according to the Gazette-Virginian. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames and it is believed that Throckmorton’s vehicle had cans of gasoline inside that could have fueled the fire.

The crash remains under investigation.
