The swimming advisory has been lifted for parts of Smith Mountain Lake. According to the Virginia Department of Health, the advisory has been lifted for the lower blackwater area that includes Gills Creek, Bull Run, Little Bull Run, the Lower Blackwater, and coves downstream of Gills Creek.
The swimming advisory is still in place above channel marker B-16, which includes the Blackwater river. The advisory was put in place because of a harmful algal bloom. To read more about the advisory click here.
