A police chase that ended in a crash on Sunday in Martinsville led to two people being arrested. The car was a Nissan Altima that had been stolen in Danville and was driven to Martinsville.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Memorial Blvd. near the city limits. The driver then drove away to Lowe’s, got back onto Memorial Blvd., lost control of the vehicle, rear-ended another vehicle, hit an embankment, and flipped the car over.

While police were detaining the occupants of the vehicle, 20-year-old Jinez Harper, of Danville, ran away on foot. An officer then caught up to Harper and a struggle ensued that led to the officer’s finger being dislocated.

Harper was in possession of a bag that had three guns inside of it, one of which had the serial number filed off. Harper was charged with obstruction of justice, three counts of illegal possession of a concealed weapon, removing/altering serial numbers on a firearm, and assault on a law enforcement officer.

The 17-year-old driver of the Altima was charged with felony attempt to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle, and driving without a license. The 17-year-old was sent to W.W. Moore Detention Center.

The three other occupants of the Altima were interviewed and released.
