Last night the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors chose to delay voting on an ordinance revision pertaining to residential planning unit developments. The revision would change county codes and allow high density.

The ordinance revision will now be voted on at the August 15 board of supervisors meeting. The board of supervisors also previously delayed a vote on a 614 acre multi-use development in the Tunstall district that would include housing, a grocery store, and a day care.

Many that live in the Tunstall district attended last night’s meeting to speak against the potential development including Jane Kendrick of the Axton Community Group.

“We welcome housing in a moderate size and we welcome working with the developers,” said Kendrick. “As we improve the county we should always be very aware of the people who already live here, we are the people who have kind of been left out and we have heard repeatedly this is what’s good for the county, this is what’s good for the future, this is what’s good for people coming in, this is what people coming in want, well now you have heard a little bit of what we would like to see and we would like to see our way of life retained.”

The board of supervisors will also vote on the mixed use development at the August 15 meeting.
