Today, the U.S. News and World Report announced their 23-24 Best High Schools, and Galileo has earned high national and metro-area rankings.

Galileo has been ranked #1,787 out of 17,680 public high schools nationwide, putting them in the top 40 percent and earning the “best high schools” title. Galileo was also ranked #44 in Virginia High Schools (out of 322) and #197 in Magnet High Schools.

In addition, Galileo was ranked #4 in the state and #154 in the nation for State Assessment Performance, which is how aggregated scores on state assessments compare with U.S. News’ expectations, given the proportions of students who are Black, Hispanic and from low-income households. In State Assessment Proficiency, which looks at aggregated scores on math, reading and oftentimes science state assessments that students may be required to pass for graduation, Galileo was ranked #13 in the state and #824 nationally.

U.S. News and World Report ranks public high schools based on their performance on state-required tests, graduation rates, and how well they prepare students for college. The Best High Schools rankings are produced in conjunction with RTI International, a global research firm. All data for the rankings comes from official third-party resources. AP and IB data come from the College Board and International Baccalaureate directly, while state assessment data and graduation rate come from each state.
