A father and son were killed in a fatal motorcycle accident in Pittsylvania County on Friday night. According to Virginia State Police, the accident occurred on Route 988, less than a mile south of Route 29 at 9:40 pm.

The motorcycle was traveling south when it ran off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail and several trees. The driver, 38-year-old Ryan Hardy, of Altavista, and a 16-year-old passenger were both killed in the crash.

Both victims were wearing their helmets and the crash remains under investigation.
