Two men were killed in Henry County over the weekend in separate incidents. The first homicide occurred on Saturday night after 8 in the 4500 block of Irisburg Road in Axton.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s office, the man who called 911 said he had shot and killed his boyfriend. When deputies arrived on scene they located a man inside the home who had been shot and killed.
The victim was later identified as 36-year-old Bryant Richard Robinson. The investigation revealed that Robinson’s boyfriend, John Brooks, shot and killed him during an argument that turned into a physical altercation.
Brooks was arrested and charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
A second homicide occurred at around 1 am on Sunday at the Scrub Board Laundromat located on Rives Road. When deputies arrived on scene they found the body of 47-year-old William Rumley of Martinsville inside the laundromat with a stab wound to the neck.
An investigation revealed that the incident was caught on tape. The victim was washing clothes at the laundromat when a man began harassing a woman at the laundromat.
Rumley got between the man and woman in an attempt to intervene and was fatally stabbed. The suspect then fled the scene on foot and was severely injured during the altercation.
The suspect was then involved in a domestic altercation on Fairy Street. 30-year-old Kenneth Tatum was then taken into custody and charged with first degree murder.
