A Danville man has been found guilty of second degree murder for the homicide of a woman at a Danville hotel. 49-year-old Avery Kirby was found guilty on Wednesday of beating 61-year-old Dale Jones to death at the Astoria Hotel in February.

Kirby told police that he knew Jones was dead and still left the scene. Kirby was placed at the scene by surveillance video and left the scene in a black SUV before he was found at his residence later.

Kirby will be sentenced in October.
