The Virginia Department of Transportation is inviting the community to attend a meeting about the proposed improvements to the intersection of Route 29 and Route 703 (Tight Squeeze Rd./Fairview Rd.) that starts approximately 0.048 mile east of the intersection of Route 29 and Fairview Rd. and 0 .066 mile west of the intersection of Route 29 and Tight squeeze Rd. in Pittsylvania County.
The purpose of the meeting is to present an alternative to the rejected RCUT design that will still improve safety and operational efficiency at the intersection. The meeting will be held in an “open house” format and team members will be present to answer questions. No formal presentation will be given.
According to VDOT, this design would add a left turn lane on Tight Squeeze Rd. and a right turn lane on Fairview Road at Route 29. There would also be a raised median to prevent certain movements and conflict points in the intersection.
Written and oral comments can be given at the meeting. They can also be submitted by e-mail to Amanda Cox, DBIA, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, at Amanda.Cox@VDOT.Virginia.gov. Please reference “Tight squeeze Alternative” in the subject line.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 4-6 pm at Chatham High School.
