A Danville man got a big surprise when he bought a scratcher ticket recently
Alfred “Leon” Law, of Danville, recently purchased a Cash is King scratcher ticket from the Virginia Lottery that was a $500,000 winner.
“I just kept looking at it!” the Danville man told Virginia Lottery officials as he redeemed his winning ticket.
The ticket was bought at Glade Hill Minute Market, located at 7350 Old Franklin Turnpike in Glade Hill. Law said he intends to help his family with his winnings.
“I like to see people happy,” he said.
Cash is King (game #2232) is one of dozens of scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $30 to $500,000. This is the first top prize claimed in the game, which means two more remain unclaimed.
The chances of winning the $500,000 top prize are 1 in 612,000. The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 4.08.
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Mr. Law lives in Danville, which received more than $8.1 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised more than $867 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
