The Gretna Library held a re-opening ceremony on Tuesday after receiving massive upgrades. The improvements include door and bathroom upgrades, a community meeting room, public computer space, outside reading spaces, with community art and sculptures.

Rhonda Griffin, Director of the Gretna Library, addressed the crowd during the ceremony and credited the former Director of the Library, Lisa Tuite, for her vision for the library.

“This was her vision, she spearheaded the project working with the county and local funders and foundations to raise the money for the renovations, the architect, the designers to create such an amazing building, and the community to help build support. Libraries have grown beyond just a place to check books in and out. They have meeting rooms, movie nights,  after school programs, computer classes, job assistance, quilting, Lego clubs, quilting, and so much more. Lisa recognized this and in addition to renovating the inside of the building she envisioned the space outside where families can interact, relax, and learn. She worked through funding challenges, supply delays, and even the pandemic to make this vision come to life,” said Griffin.
