The Danville Police Department held a farewell reception last night for Chief Scott Booth. Booth has served as the Police Chief in Danville for five and a half years. He will become the Police Chief for the Roanoke Police Department after his final day in Danville on October 31.

Deputy Police Chief Chris Wiles praised Booth for his leadership and impact on the department.

“We thank you for your leadership that has transformed our organization and set the course for us to follow to build upon the incredible success that we’ve accomplished together and we commit to you and to our community that we will honor your legacy by continuing to partner closely with our community. To hold each other accountable to accomplish our mission to protect and serve and to improve the community,” said Wiles.

During his tenure, Booth has been recognized for his leadership in reducing crime, community policing, and community engagement. Most recently, Booth received national recognition with the Frederic Milton Thrasher Award from the National
Gang Crime Research Center.

Booth thanked the department and city for the support he received.

“So many of these episodes that we talked about whether it was an apology, whether it was an officer involved shooting, a tragedy in our community, I could not have done without you, without our community, and most of all of the women and men of our organization,” said Booth, “and you see before you a police department that I won’t say I transformed, but I think together we became better, and I feel that together we have made this a much safer and better community.”
