Pittsylvania County has issued a burn ban starting at 6 pm on Wednesday. Burn bans have now been issued in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
Currently, the National Weather Service has declared Pittsylvania County, Virginia (County), to be under “abnormally dry” conditions. The County is expected to see below normal precipitation for the near future. Accordingly, Christopher Key, Pittsylvania County Director of Public Safety has implemented a ban on open burning.
This burn ban is effective beginning at 6 p.m. and will remain in effect until the County receives a significant amount of rainfall that decreases fire risk, at which time the ban shall be lifted. A violation of this burn ban is punishable as a Class 1 Misdemeanor, which, carries for a conviction thereof, the possibility of confinement in jail for not more than 12 months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.
On Monday, November 6, Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a State of Emergency for the Commonwealth due to multiple wildfires impacting the state.
