On the one-year anniversary of the fatal shootings of three UVA football players Governor Glenn Youngkin has issued an order that all American and State flags across the state be lowered to half-staff. The order was made to honor the memories of Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry who were shot and killed on November 13, 2022.
A release from Youngkin’s office states that flags will be lowered at sunrise on Tuesday and will remain at half-staff until sunset.
UVA held multiple events on Monday to remember Chandler, Davis Jr., and Perry including a panel discussion on healing in the aftermath of gun violence that included the mother of D’Sean Perry, Happy Perry. The UVA Chapel bells also played a verse of “Amazing Grace” in memory of the three players.
