(Henry County, VA) The Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that took the life of a 14-year-old on Friday. At Approximately 1:35pm, a 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling North on Great Road in Henry County when the vehicle ran off the right-hand side of the road. The vehicle overturned and both the driver and passenger were ejected.
A 16-year-old juvenile from Collinsville was behind the wheel and was not wearing his seatbelt, and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The passenger, 14-year-old Serjio Ramirez-Mendoza, of Collinsville, Va., was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.
Authorities believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash and charges are pending. State Police say the crash remains under investigation.
