The Danville Police Department has issued a statement in regards to a new information sharing feature from Apple for iPhone users.

The department says no matter what method of information sharing is used, whether by letter, email, text message, through social media, phone or internet app, word of mouth, or any other type of platform, it is critical that you carefully protect your personal information.
Never share your personal information, such as social security numbers, driver’s license info, bank accounts, credit/debit card numbers, login information, or any other unique identifiers with anyone.
Be cautious of any emails soliciting payments, even if they appear to be from legitimate sources. The police department recommends that you not use links provided in billing emails. Instead, use the links from other known sources such as the entities website.
Just as many young people, especially those not familiar with banking, have their identity stolen annually as the elderly.
Financial institutions will never call and ask to verify your social security number.
Never agree to purchase gift cards and provide card information over the phone. Dial 911 to report anything suspicious.
