Last night Danville City Council approved a special use permit that will allow apartments and townhomes to be built in the Monument Berryman area of town. The plan for the apartments came into existence as a by-product of the city’s decision to remove blighted and abandoned properties across the city.
The project includes 60 apartments that would be in three buildings and 30 townhomes across five different sites. In total the project will add 200 bedrooms in this part of town.
The apartments would be in two 24-unit buildings and one 12-unit building. One building would face Monument Street and two would face Cabell Street.
The apartments would mostly be two bedroom units. For the townhomes eight of them would face Monument Street next to W.W. Moore
16 of the townhomes would face Cabell Street and six townhomes would face Franklin Street.
City Council also voted to table a recommendation from the Danville Planning Commission to set a limit of 150 short-term rentals in the city. 150 was the recommended number because it is about one percent of the land parcels in Danville.
The planning commission says there are currently over 100 short-term rentals in Danville.
