The annual Santa, Cops & Kids event, a cherished tradition in Martinsville, VA, is set to reach a significant milestone this year. Organized by the dedicated officers of the Martinsville Police Department, this year’s event, held at Walmart in Martinsville on Saturday at 8 am, promises to be the largest in its history, assisting more than 100 children in need.

For several years, the region’s law enforcement officers and deputies have come together each December to help children purchase gifts for Christmas. However, with the dissolution of the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, the officers of the Martinsville Police Department stepped up to ensure this heartwarming tradition continued.

Under the leadership of Lt. Ben Peters, the officers secured grants from the Harvest Foundation Youth Board, Woodmen Life, and Walmart. Despite a surge in applications, surpassing previous years, the officers were determined that no child would be left without support. They rallied the community, raising additional funds through personal donations and engaging friends, family, and local businesses.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the program’s success, especially our major sponsors – the Harvest Foundation Youth Board, Walmart, Woodmen Life, Reliable Welding and Fabricators, Skyline Tree Service, The Charity League of Martinsville and Henry County and the Lester Group,” Lt. Peters added.

At this Saturday’s event, active and retired Martinsville police officers, alongside volunteers from the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and the Harvest Foundation Youth Board, personally assisting the children with their shopping.
