In the wake of the death of an off-duty Greensboro Police Sergeant local law enforcement agencies will pay their respects to honor both the officer and his department.
The Danville Police Department as well as Rockingham County Sherriff’s office will be shrouding their badges in a show of support.
Sergeant Philip Dale Nix was off-duty Saturday afternoon when he saw individuals attempting to steal $83 worth of beer from a Sheetz in Colfax, tried to stop it, and was shot. Nix was a 23-year veteran of the Greensboro Police Department and was most recently according to WFMY the supervisor of the Family Victims Unit, while also being a member of the department’s Honor Guard.
Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
