The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Flood Warning for Danville. The warning is for the Dan River near the City of Danville, as well as Rockingham, Caswell and Pittsylvania Counties. The Dan River at Paces affecting Halifax County. The Dan River at South Boston affecting Halifax County.
The river is expected to rise above flood stage at 21.0 feet late tonight to a crest of 24.4 feet by early Wednesday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage early Thursday morning.
At 23.0 feet flooding begins to effect the shopping center which houses Dan River Church along Riverside Drive. Public Works has set up pumps in the S-Curves along River Street and will have crews monitoring that area overnight.
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.
