Two special elections will be held in the southside today. Special elections are being held for the 9th Senate District and the 48th House District.

For the 9th Senate District former legislative aide Tammy Mulchi will face democrat and former South Boston Mayor Tina Younger. The special election is being held after former Senator Frank Ruff announced his retirement in December.

The 9th Senate District includes Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County among others.

For the 48th House District seat Republican Eric Phillips of Martinsville and democrat Melody Cartwright of Martinsville will face off. The special election is being held after Les Adams resigned from the House in December.

The 48th house district includes Martinsville as well as part of Pittsylvania County and Henry County.
