Charges are pending after a fatal two vehicle crash in Franklin County. Virginia State Police are investigating  the crash that occurred Tuesday, (Jan 9), at 6:10 p.m. on Old Franklin Turnpike, at the intersection with Webster Road in Franklin County.

A 2022 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on Old Franklin Turnpike, when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 2017 Dodge Caravan head-on.

The Chevrolet was driven by Michael G. Odenwald, 43, of Pawpaw, MI. Mr. Odenwald was wearing his seatbelt and was transported by EMS for injuries received in the crash.

The driver of the Dodge was identified as Monica Michelle Austin, 47, of Glade Hill, Va. Ms Austin was wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene.

 The crash remains under investigation.
