A man has been charged following an officer involved shooting in Danville. On January 17, Danville Police Department officers were involved in a shooting in the 500 block of Apollo Avenue.
During de-escalation attempts, Nicholas Beddoo, 24, of Danville, drew a handgun from his waistband and officers gave him commands to drop it. Beddoo fired the gun in a direction away from officers before turning and pointing it at them. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking Beddoo.
On Wednesday, Jan. 24, Beddoo was released from the medical facility he was admitted to, and charged by the Virginia State Police with three felony charges:
One count of willfully discharging a firearm on school property
Two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer
Beddoo is being held without bond in the Danville City Jail.
