Virginia State Police is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Friday at 11:25 pm on Old Cox Road in Mecklenburg County.

A 2018 Chevrolet Malibu was heading southbound on Old Cox Road near the intersection with Easters Road when it ran off the road to the left and struck a tree.

The driver of the Malibu, Matthew F. Green, Jr., 34, of Chase City, Va., was transported to an area hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Green was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
