The South Boston Police Department is warning local businesses and banks of a possible scam.
On Thursday the South Boston Police Department was notified by another police agency about a current scam happening in nearby jurisdictions.
A male subject is entering businesses with a New York Driver’s License, an item showing Virginia residency (Electric Bill etc.) and a US Treasury check, all of these items are fraudulent; however, the US Treasury check is temporarily allowing the man to obtain large amounts of cash.
The South Boston Police Department would like for local businesses and banks to be aware of these incidents in our neighboring communities and to be on the lookout for this type of scam.
Investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information concerning these incidents is asked to call the Police Department at 434-575-4271. Callers may remain anonymous.
