Two dogs were killed during a house fire in Danville on Thursday night. The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 118 Cumberland Dr. at 6:13 pm.
pon arrival crews found a residential structure with heavy smoke pushing from the interior and fire showing from a basement window. The crew from Engine three entered the basement and began fire attack while Ladder 1 entered the structure and began a search for victims.
Ladder 1 quickly located two dogs and removed them to the outside. Personnel attempted to revive the dogs but were unsuccessful.
The fire caused extensive damage to the basement with heavy smoke throughout the remainder of the structure. Three engines, one ladder truck a safety officer and a Battalion Chief responded. No other injuries were reported.
The Fire Marshalls’ office investigated the cause of the fire, which was determined to be unattended cooking. Crews were on the scene for approximately one and a half hours.
