The City of Danville held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for the first Monument Berryman Redevelopment Area project. The project is a planned unit development that will create residential housing on Monument, Shelton, Cabell, and Franklin streets.

The development will consist of 34 townhomes and 60 apartments divided into three buildings. CCKW is the developer for the project.

“I’m super proud of the work that has been done to get us to this point. The team with the city in partnership with the housing authority and others helped make this happen,” said City Manager Ken Larking, “I want to specifically thank the City Council, who over the last 11 years or so had put a priority on blight in Danville to remedy that for the health of neighborhoods and the people who live in our community.”

“Not very many communities have invested the amount that Danville has invested in dealing with blight and that’s a big reason why we are able to do things like this today and that neighborhoods are getting healthier and that people’s home values are going up,” said Larking.

In total the project will add 200 bedrooms in this part of town.

The apartments will be in two 24-unit buildings and one 12-unit building. One building will face Monument Street and two will face Cabell Street.

The apartments would mostly be two bedroom units. For the townhomes eight of them will face Monument Street next to W.W. Moore

16 of the townhomes will face Cabell Street and six townhomes will face Franklin Street.
