The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating after an inmate at the Rockingham County Detention Facility died from an apparent self-inflicted injury.
According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, at 4:20 pm on Monday, Detention Officers found that an inmate had attempted to take her own life. Immediate medical assistance was rendered by Detention Officers and Emergency Medical Personnel; however, the inmate died as a result of her apparent self-inflicted injury.
The inmate was in a cell by herself at the time she was found. At Sheriff Sam Page’s request, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI) has been contacted to investigate the death.
