On Monday night, Pittsylvania County and VDOT held a public meeting to discuss how to improve traffic safety on Franklin Turnpike(Route 41). During the meeting VDOT revealed possible plans for improvements that included roundabouts at the intersections of Franklin Turnpike and Orphanage Road and at the intersections of Franklin Turnpike with Mount Hermon Circle and Oak Forest Circle.
A traffic signal could also be a possibility for the Orphanage Road intersection, according to VDOT. Other possible improvements that have been discussed include a median with left turns at the Tuscarora Village Shopping Center and Norris Funeral Home.
A roundabout or traffic signal is also being discussed at the intersections of Franklin Turnpike with Ridgecrest Drive and Jeanette Drive. Other possible improvements being discussed include a shared use path and pedestrian crossings.
