Pittsylvania County Schools is partnering with the Edmunds family and the NFL as part of a pilot program for girls flag football in the area. Ferrell, Trey, Terrell, and Tremaine Edmunds, who all play or have played in the NFL, are spearheading the initiative in Pittsylvania County and will help with the implementation.
According to the NFL, flag football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world with over 20 million participants in 100 countries. In 2022, over 474,000 girls between the ages of 6 and 17 played flag football.
According to Pittsylvania County School Superintendent Dr. Mark Jones, implementation in the county will begin at the middle school level. The program will be available starting next year.
