The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is proposing to add three Pittsylvania County roads to the state’s secondary six-year plan for unpaved roads, also known as the Rural Rustic Roads program.
The three proposed roads are Dairy View Road (Route 694, .78 miles) in Kentuck; Rockcreek Road (Route 781, 1.48 miles) in Rondo and Midway Road (Route 671, 1.52 miles) in Gretna.
Joseph Craddock, VDOT Resident Engineer, presented the proposed plan to the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors at its April 16 work session. If added, work on these roads would begin in 2029, according to VDOT.
The three roads, which were based on requests from citizens over the years, will be within four voting districts: Banister, Callands-Gretna, Staunton River and Chatham-Blairs, according to Craddock.
Craddock said VDOT has $756,000 in the Fiscal 2030 budget to pave 3.6 to 3.8 miles of road. If the Board wants to add additional roads, the list will have to be adjusted to remain within funding parameters, according to Craddock.
A public hearing on the proposed roads is expected to be held during the May 21 Board meeting.
