May 16, 2024, marks 15 years since Halifax County resident, Hattie G. Brown, disappeared from a gas station in South Boston, Va. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office, with the assistance of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and South Boston Police, are still actively pursuing the criminal investigation and seeking information from the public.
Brown, 51, was last seen May 16, 2009, at the Sheetz gas station at the intersection of Route 58 and 501 in South Boston. Surveillance video captured Brown and her nephew stopped at the gas station with her silver 2003 Volkswagen Jetta at approximately 2:30 a.m. Two months later, the Jetta was discovered destroyed by fire approximately 12 miles away behind a barn in the southeast corner of Halifax County.
Brown is African American, with brown eyes and black, shoulder-length hair. She is approximately 5’4 in height and weighs 155 pounds. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a sleeveless top and pants with side stripes. She was not carrying her purse or medications, according to investigators. At this time, state police is pursuing her disappearance as a murder investigation.
