One person was killed during a shooting in Pittsylvania County on Thursday night. At 8:15 pm, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 1600 block of Shula Drive in Hurt for a reported shooting incident.

Upon arrival, deputies found a male subject suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.  Medical aid was rendered to the lone victim, but the victim died at the scene.

Deputies learned that a person of interest fled the scene prior to their arrival. After a search of the approximate area around the crime scene the individual was found and immediately taken into custody by law enforcement without incident.

The victim was identified as 28-year-old Jimmy Dee Hardwick of Hurt. Hardwick will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for the Western District of Virginia where the cause and manner of death will be determined.

Investigators have arrested Barry David Davis, 50, of Gretna.  Davis is charged with the murder Hardwick.  In Addition to the charge of murder, Davis is charged with shooting from vehicles to endanger persons, possession or transportation of firearms, firearms ammunition, stun weapons, explosives or concealed weapons by convicted felon, use or display of firearm in committing felonies, and reckless handling of firearms.  Davis remains in the Pittsylvania County jail without bond. His first court appearance has not been scheduled.
